Director Raja is hailed as the King of Remakes. His directorial debut was in Telugu ‘Hanuman Junction’, a Malayalam remake, with Arjun in the lead.

Its success was followed by three Telugu remakes in Tamil, ‘Jayam’, ‘M.Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi’, ‘Unakkum Enakkum’, all achieving huge success.

“Remakes are never easy. Taking up a proven hit and making it succeed again is a challenge. What works in one region needn't in another. So I sit with my team and thrash out every single shot, add or subtract sequences, introduce tracks to suit tastes here, work on the cast list over and over again and go to the sets only when I'm sure we have a winner on our hands.”

He is currently remaking the Telugu hit ‘Bommarillu’ in Tamil starring his brother Ravi in the lead role. Genelia is playing the female lead role. Cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh is also in the cast.
